...with Nerano, the villa and the owner. Casale Villarena is tucked away in the hills of Nerano on the Sorrento Peninsula. I was intially disappointed that the villa was 18 km away from Sorrento but quickly realized that being away from the hustle and bustle of Sorrento was a much better way to enjoy this part of Italy.
The apartment in the villa was beautifully decorated, fully equipped with kitchen essentials, and had a wonderful patio with a breathtaking view. Two small markets across the street provided everything you would desire to eat and drink.
A pool nestled amongst the lemon trees is refereshing after a daytrip and is accessible at all times.
The villa is about a 15 minute walk from the beach and marina. From here you can take trips to Amalfi, Positano and Capri (highly recommend it!), so there is no need to go to Sorrento. Arrangments for the tours can be made through the villa. Some restaurants and shops line the beach area. Enjoy a glass of wine while overlooking the sea and people watching!
The owner, Guglielmo, is charming and helpful. He is more than willing to sit and chat, arrange day trips, provide some local history and offer multiple glasses of his homemade limoncello.
Casale Villarena is an excellent value, a beautiful property and a wonderful place to spend your time when you want to visit the Sorrento Peninsula. It is a must!
